Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a commemorative postage stamp and a special Rs 75 coin during the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’ celebrations in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district. The releases followed religious ceremonies, including the Kumbhabhishek and Dhwaj Puja, at the Somnath Temple, marking 75 years since its reconstruction. The stamp and coin were presented during PM Modi’s address at a public meeting held after the temple rituals.
The stamp and coin were issued by the Prime Minister’s Office to honor the rich legacy and spiritual significance of Somnath. The Rs 75 coin commemorates the 75th anniversary of the reconstructed Somnath Temple and also signifies 1,000 years of its religious importance and resilience. Made of 99.9% pure silver, the coin weighs 40 grams, has a diameter of 44 millimeters, and features 200 serrations along the edge.
The obverse side of the coin displays the Lion Capital of Ashoka with the inscription “Satyameva Jayate,” while the reverse side showcases an image of the Somnath Temple and inscriptions referring to “1000 Years of India’s Unwavering Faith and Devotion.” Additionally, the year “2026” and the words “Somnath Mandir, Gujarat” are inscribed on the reverse side. The commemorative postage stamp released during the event highlights the historical and spiritual significance of the Somnath Temple in Indian civilization.
The Somnath Amrut Mahotsav is being held to mark 75 years since the reconstructed temple was inaugurated in 1951 by India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, following restoration efforts supported by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Earlier in the day, PM Modi conducted a roadshow in Somnath, participated in temple rituals, and was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, saints, temple trustees, and senior officials. The celebrations also included an aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team, cultural performances, and ceremonial rituals attended by numerous devotees and visitors from across the country.
