Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson for welcoming him at Gothenburg Airport. Modi, on his second visit to Sweden, looks forward to enhancing the friendship between India and Sweden during this significant trip. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson highlighted Sweden’s importance as a partner for India, emphasizing that Modi’s visit will boost bilateral ties.
PM Modi’s arrival in Sweden was marked by a warm reception from PM Kristersson, showcasing the strong ties between the two nations. The visit aims to bolster cooperation in key areas such as technology, sustainability, innovation, and Research and Development. Swedish Gripen fighter jets even escorted PM Modi’s plane upon entry into Sweden, underscoring the significance of the visit.
During the visit, PMs Modi and Kristersson will assess various aspects of bilateral relations and seek to expand collaboration to boost trade between the two countries. The India-Sweden relationship has seen substantial growth, with bilateral trade reaching $7.75 billion in 2025 and Swedish FDI into India totaling $2.825 billion from 2000 to 2025. Additionally, both leaders are scheduled to address the European Round Table for Industry, a prominent business leaders forum in Europe, alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
PM Modi’s visit to Sweden follows his attendance at the India-Nordic Summit in 2018, reflecting the importance of strengthening ties with European nations. The trip signifies a commitment to fostering stronger partnerships and exploring new avenues of cooperation between India and Sweden.
