Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a video conference with Chief Ministers on Friday to discuss the West Asia conflict and review state preparedness and plans. The meeting aims to ensure coordinated efforts under the ‘Team India’ spirit amidst escalating geopolitical tensions. Chief Ministers from election-bound states will not attend due to the model code of conduct, with a separate meeting planned for Chief Secretaries of these states through the Cabinet Secretariat.
The meeting is expected to provide PM Modi with an opportunity to update Chief Ministers on India’s crisis approach and seek a broader consensus. Recently, an all-party meeting was held at the Parliament House complex in New Delhi to address the West Asia situation. PM Modi, in his address to Parliament, highlighted the formation of seven empowered groups to devise strategies concerning fuel, supply chains, and other critical areas affected by the Iran-Israel-US conflict.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the all-party meeting, which was attended by key leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other prominent figures. Following the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed gratitude to all participating parties for their engagement, noting that the government had addressed the queries and concerns raised by the opposition.
The discussions included Congress leaders Mukul Wasnik and Tariq Anwar, CPI-M MP John Brittas, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, and other opposition representatives. The meeting took place against the backdrop of heightened tensions in West Asia, impacting crucial maritime routes and raising apprehensions about the safety of Indian nationals in Gulf countries.
