Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Punjab on Sunday to mark Ravidass Jayanti, an important occasion for the Ravidassia community in the state’s Doaba region. He will spend about 45 minutes at the dera with Sant Niranjan Das, the revered saint of the community, who recently received the Padma Shri award.
The Prime Minister’s tour itinerary includes arriving at Adampur airport around 3.30 pm and then traveling to the sect via helicopter. This visit holds significance as PM Modi will rename Adampur’s civil airport after Guru Ravidass Maharaj to honor the sentiments of the community concentrated in the Doaba region.
During the visit, PM Modi will also virtually inaugurate the new terminal at Halwara airport in Ludhiana, aiming to enhance aviation infrastructure in Punjab. The renaming of Adampur airport coincides with the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidass, celebrating his teachings of equality and compassion that continue to inspire Indian society.
The renaming of the airport and the inauguration of the new terminal at Halwara are part of efforts to improve connectivity and accommodate larger aircraft in Punjab. Sant Niranjan Das, the spiritual leader, has been instrumental in spreading the teachings of Sant Guru Ravidass Maharaj both in India and abroad, promoting social harmony and humanity.
