In a late appeal to opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested their backing for the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ amid ongoing parliamentary discussions. The Lok Sabha recently approved the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, focusing on women’s reservation and delimitation after a division of votes.

PM Modi highlighted ongoing debates on amending the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, emphasizing the government’s efforts to address concerns and provide necessary information to members. He stressed the importance of granting women their rightful representation in decision-making processes after decades of political play on the issue.

The Prime Minister urged all political parties to support the Bills’ unanimous passage, emphasizing the significance of women’s reservation. He appealed for thoughtful consideration and sensitivity in decision-making, urging MPs to vote in favor of the amendment to empower women across the country.

Voting on the Bills is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, with PM Modi calling on MPs to honor the memory of their female family members and support the cause of women empowerment. He expressed hope for a consensus passage of the amendment to further empower women and strengthen the country’s democracy.
