Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the urgent necessity of women’s reservation in legislative bodies, labeling it a transformative move to enhance India’s democracy. He called for unity among Members of Parliament to ensure the timely passing of this crucial legislation. PM Modi emphasized that any delay in implementing women’s reservation would be regrettable, highlighting its significance in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring equal representation.

In his Op-Ed, the Prime Minister extended festive greetings to citizens across India, mentioning various traditional New Year celebrations in different regions. He underlined the importance of upcoming national events, including the 200th birth anniversary of Mahatma Phule and Ambedkar Jayanti. PM Modi announced that Parliament would convene on April 16 to discuss and pass a bill aimed at advancing women’s reservation in legislative bodies, emphasizing that this move reflects the aspirations of millions of women in the nation.

PM Modi acknowledged women’s substantial contributions across various sectors and highlighted the need for increased representation in political and legislative spheres. He noted past efforts to ensure women’s participation in democratic institutions and the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam as a significant milestone. The Prime Minister linked this initiative to the spirit of the Indian Constitution, emphasizing the importance of strengthening women’s representation for achieving equality and inclusivity in society.

Underscoring the urgency of the matter, PM Modi warned against delaying women’s representation, stating that it would perpetuate existing imbalances in the democratic system. He called for timely action to fulfill long-standing commitments and sustain the momentum of national progress. The Prime Minister described the proposed reform as a historic opportunity to make India’s democracy more representative, responsive, and future-ready, stressing the need for collective action transcending political boundaries.
