Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gothenburg following an invitation from Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Both leaders highlighted the significance of the India-EU Summit, stressing the need to deepen ties between India and the European Union.
The Prime Ministers agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, focusing on areas like stability, security, economic cooperation, and emerging technologies. They endorsed an enhanced Joint Action Plan for the implementation of this Strategic Partnership, aiming to strengthen political, diplomatic, and defense dialogues.
Furthermore, the leaders announced plans to double bilateral economic exchange within five years through initiatives like “Make in India” and “Made with Sweden.” They also discussed cooperation in areas such as digitalization, space technologies, and talent attraction, emphasizing the importance of people-to-people exchanges and connectivity.
The Prime Ministers condemned terrorism in all its forms, calling for international efforts to combat it effectively. They reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, human rights, and sustainable development, underscoring the importance of a rules-based international order. Additionally, they looked forward to the India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, Norway, strengthening ties between India and the Nordic countries.
