Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to conserve petrol, diesel, and energy resources is being exemplified on the ground. In a notable instance in Merta, Rajasthan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma traveled together in a single vehicle from the helipad to the event venue, symbolically endorsing resource conservation. Typically, VVIP visits involve large convoys, but during this visit, the convoy was intentionally kept small in line with the PM’s message on reducing fuel consumption.
The convoy consisted of just six vehicles, a stark contrast to the usual 15 to 20 vehicle convoys seen during such visits. Observers highlighted that PM Modi had set the precedent by opting for a minimal convoy of only two vehicles the day before. Rajnath Singh and Bhajanlal Sharma arrived at the Dangawas helipad in Merta around 12:15 p.m., proceeding to visit the Charbhuja Nath Temple and unveil a statue of Rao Duda, the founder of Merta.
During the event, Rajnath Singh praised Rao Duda’s legacy of courage, dedication, and service to society. Following the Merta program, the leaders headed to Jodhpur for another public engagement. The gesture of carpooling by the two senior leaders and the modest convoy size sparked discussions in political circles, seen as a symbolic move to promote fuel conservation, administrative simplicity, and responsible use of public resources.
