The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a key initiative of the Modi government, is aiding in fulfilling the housing needs of underprivileged families nationwide. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, nearly 30,000 houses have been constructed under the PMAY, bringing joy to the beneficiaries who now have their own all-weather homes.
The PMAY (Grameen) supports rural households in building their own houses, while the PMAY (Urban) assists city dwellers in constructing their residences. Despite a higher initial target, 29,197 PMAY houses have been completed in Doda, with 1,215 homes still in progress due to delays by beneficiaries in commencing construction post-receiving payments.
Assistant Commissioner Development Doda, Din Mohammed Afaqi, has urged those with pending houses to expedite construction to meet the set targets. Angraiz Singh, a resident of Doda, expressed gratitude for the scheme, stating that it enabled him to build his own home with a combination of government assistance and personal contributions.
All houses built under PMAY come equipped with essential amenities like toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and tap connections, provided through coordination with other government schemes. The scheme operates in both urban and rural areas, overseen by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in cities and the Ministry of Rural Development in rural regions.
