PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss has called on the Tamil Nadu government to promptly name a permanent Director General of Police (DGP) to prevent potential disruptions in administrative stability and law enforcement. Ramadoss highlighted the prolonged absence of a full-time DGP in the state, emphasizing the critical need for a permanent police chief to address law and order challenges. He stressed the importance of adhering to statutory procedures in appointing senior police officials, citing the Supreme Court’s guidelines on police reforms.
Ramadoss urged the government to swiftly choose a suitable candidate from the UPSC-recommended panel and appoint a permanent DGP for Tamil Nadu. He emphasized the significance of a stable and independent police leadership in ensuring efficient policing and enhancing public trust in law enforcement. The absence of a permanent DGP, according to Ramadoss, could hinder decision-making and administrative continuity within the police department, underscoring the necessity for an experienced police chief to navigate growing social and security concerns.
The PMK founder called for a prompt decision, urging the state government to finalize the appointment of the new DGP within days by selecting the most competent officer from the UPSC-recommended list. He also appealed to all political parties, especially opposition groups, to cooperate impartially in the appointment process to maintain the independence of the police administration from political influence. Ramadoss emphasized the urgency of appointing a permanent DGP without delay to ensure public safety, uphold the rule of law, and maintain administrative stability within the police force.
