PMK President Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss has called on the Tamil Nadu government and TANGEDCO to address the demands of gangmen by appointing them to vacant Field Assistant and Wireman positions. Anbumani emphasized that the request made by gangmen is reasonable and justified, highlighting the need for attention from the authorities.
Anbumani pointed out that despite steps being taken to fill vacancies in the electricity board, the demand of gangmen for higher technical posts has not been adequately addressed. TANGEDCO had not recruited field-level workers for years until issuing a notification in 2019 for the recruitment of gangmen, with 9,613 candidates appointed in March 2021 after rigorous selection processes.
The PMK leader highlighted that gangmen, who are currently performing duties beyond their designated roles, face significant risks in their work. Anbumani noted that these workers are engaged in tasks typically handled by Field Assistants and Wiremen, such as power supply restoration, maintenance of transformers, and handling technical operations related to electricity.
Anbumani stressed the need for existing gangmen to be considered for the reported vacancies of Field Assistant and Wireman posts, citing their educational qualifications and technical training. He urged the government to prioritize these workers for higher positions and ensure fair salaries based on their qualifications and experience.
