Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district announced the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers on Thursday. The suspects were found in possession of 4.7 gm of heroin during a routine patrol in Katra. The police action is part of the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.
The District Police Reasi, led by SSP Mukund Tibrewal, has been actively targeting narcotics as part of their campaign. The arrested individuals, Suresh Kumar and Jeevan Lal, were apprehended during a frisking operation at Varun Chowk in Katra. The seized heroin, known as ‘chitta’, was found on Jeevan Lal.
Following the arrest, the police conducted the necessary legal procedures and registered a case under the NDPS Act at Police Station Katra. The operation was successfully carried out by the police team under the supervision of Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao and senior officials SDPO Dr Bhishm Dubey and SP Kameshwar Puri.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, highlighted the state police’s significant achievements in combating drug networks. The police have witnessed a substantial increase in property attachments related to drug trafficking and have been actively detaining individuals involved in narcotics activities. The campaign against drugs has resulted in a notable increase in NDPS cases and the seizure of a significant amount of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
