Several policemen were injured in Giridih, Jharkhand, when they tried to arrest a cybercriminal and faced an attack from the suspect’s family and villagers. The incident occurred during a raid in Chiksoria village to apprehend the wanted cybercrime accused, Churaman Mandal. Led by Cyber police station in charge Rameshwar Bhagat, the police team faced resistance from a large crowd of villagers and relatives of the accused.
The situation escalated into violence as the crowd surrounded the police team, assaulting them with sticks and stones. Exploiting the chaos, the villagers freed Mandal from police custody, allowing him to escape. In response to the attack, senior officers and additional forces were deployed to the scene to restore order and provide additional security in the area.
Bhagat explained that the police had received specific information about the accused’s location in the village, leading to the arrest attempt. Despite managing to detain Mandal, the police encountered aggressive resistance from the gathered crowd, resulting in injuries to officers and damage to the police vehicle.
Police announced plans to file a separate FIR at Ahilyapur police station regarding the violent incident. They also emphasized that legal action would be taken against those responsible for attacking the police, impeding official duties, releasing the accused, and causing damage to public property. Raids are ongoing to apprehend the absconding suspect and individuals involved in the assault.
