In Muzaffarpur district, police uncovered an organized gang engaged in illegal gas refilling and black marketing during a severe LPG shortage. Acting on a tip-off, a raid led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Suchitra Kumari in the Nariyar area exposed the illicit operation. Despite the accused fleeing during the night raid, authorities seized a significant amount of materials used in the illegal activity.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the gang exploited the gas shortage by transferring LPG from tankers to smaller cylinders in secluded locations, endangering public safety. The seized items included a fully loaded LPG tanker with a Nepalese registration, a Bolero pickup van carrying cylinders, an e-rickshaw for distribution, and various gas-refilling tools. DSP Suchitra Kumari confirmed the recovery of these items and stated that an FIR has been filed, with further actions in progress.
Authorities suspect potential cross-border connections with Nepal due to the Nepalese registration of the seized tanker. A comprehensive investigation is ongoing to unravel the network’s full scope and identify all involved individuals. Despite the absconding accused, law enforcement is optimistic about their imminent arrest. Panic has gripped illegal gas traders in Nariyar and nearby regions following the crackdown, prompting intensified police surveillance. Local residents have welcomed the intervention, alleviating the hardship caused by the LPG shortage and emphasizing the severe risks associated with illegal gas refilling.
