A police constable stationed at Kadi Police Station in Mehsana district was apprehended by the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for taking an Rs 80,000 bribe to resolve a criminal complaint. The accused, identified as Amin Husain Manjur Husain Sheikh, a Class III unarmed Police Constable, was caught after a complainant reported the demand for money in connection with a case at Langhnaj Police Station.
The trap was set following the complainant’s report to the Gandhinagar ACB, stating that the constable had requested funds to handle the complaint against the complainant and his siblings. Initially demanding Rs two lakh, the constable later settled for Rs 80,000 after negotiations. Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant sought help from the Gandhinagar ACB, leading to the successful operation where the accused accepted the money on a public road between Irana Three Roads and Kadi.
The ACB recovered the entire sum from the constable and filed a case against him for misusing his position as a public servant and engaging in criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act. This arrest is part of a series of anti-corruption actions conducted by the Gujarat ACB recently, including trapping other police personnel and government officials in separate operations against corruption.
