Vijay Dilip Nagapure, a 35-year-old police constable from Amravati, tragically took his own life by shooting himself in the head with his service pistol inside the Quick Response Team (QRT) office. Nagapure, who hailed from Dhamangaon Katpur, had been a part of the police force since 2014 and was unmarried.
The incident occurred after Nagapure finished his night duty on Wednesday and stayed back in the QRT office within the Police Commissionerate premises. The news of his suicide sent shockwaves through the police department, prompting senior officials, including Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola, to rush to the scene.
Following the discovery by a fellow constable, a forensic team and a dog squad were called in for investigation. A bullet was found at the scene, and Nagapure’s body was taken to the District General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Prior to the tragic event, Nagapure had a conversation with his brother, who is also in the police force, hinting at filling petrol before heading home.
The reason behind Nagapure’s suicide remains unclear, with authorities conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances leading to his death. Colleagues mourn the loss of their fellow officer, and officials assure that a comprehensive probe is ongoing to determine the cause of this tragic incident.
