An encounter between police and criminals occurred in the jurisdiction of the Mairwa police station in Bihar’s Siwan district, resulting in the apprehension of a suspect linked to a significant gold robbery. The accused sustained gunshot wounds to both legs during the exchange of fire and was taken into police custody. Identified as Ankit Kumar Singh, a 26-year-old resident of Chandpur Ghurghat, he was involved in a robbery at a jewellery shop in Jamapur Market where gold worth around Rs 20 lakh was stolen.
The arrested individual, Ankit Kumar Singh, son of Srinivas Singh, was admitted to a local hospital and later transferred to Patna for specialized medical care due to the severity of his injuries. The police had received specific intelligence regarding the movement of the accused, leading to a team being deployed and placed on high alert. Ankit, on his way to Mairwa block in Siwan, opened fire upon encountering the police near Bedoli Mor, prompting a swift exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, the accused was shot in both knees by police bullets, causing him to collapse and be swiftly apprehended. Following the incident, he was taken to Sadar Hospital for initial treatment and then referred to Patna for further medical attention due to the critical nature of his injuries. Siwan Superintendent of Police, Puran Kumar Jha, confirmed the events, stating that the accused, involved in the gold robbery case, was injured during the police operation near Bedoli and subsequently hospitalized.
Police have initiated additional raids to capture other suspects connected to the robbery.
