Police in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, have taken action against illicit poppy cultivation by destroying crops and filing five FIRs. The drive against narcotic crop cultivation has been intensified in the region. In one instance, poppy cultivation spanning 30 marlas of land was identified in village Liver, Srigufwara, and promptly destroyed.

Four FIRs were lodged under the relevant laws at the Srigufwara Police Station, with investigations underway. Additionally, in Nanil, Gh Nabi Mir’s illicit poppy cultivation was reported, leading to the destruction of crops cultivated over approximately 270 square feet. An FIR has been registered at the Mattan Police Station, and investigations have commenced.

Anantnag Police emphasizes its commitment to combating drug-related activities and urges the public to report any illegal practices. Stringent legal measures will be taken against individuals engaged in narcotic cultivation or trade. The Jammu and Kashmir police have been actively targeting drug smugglers and those involved in cultivating narcotic substances to safeguard future generations from the adverse effects of drug abuse.

During the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, authorities have announced severe penalties for drug offenders, including the revocation of Aadhaar cards, driving licenses, and passports. Properties acquired through illicit activities are also being seized by the police upon court orders.
