Two police officers were among four individuals treated for injuries after separate shootings in western Sydney. The initial incident took place in Punchbowl, 16 km southwest of central Sydney, when officers spotted a reported stolen car. An officer was pinned between two vehicles as he tried to arrest the driver, who then fled the scene. The injured officer was taken to the hospital in stable condition with lower leg injuries.
In a subsequent incident in Chester Hill, 19 km west of central Sydney, emergency services responded to reports of shots fired between two vehicles. A 26-year-old man arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds, while a 30-year-old man with a vehicle riddled with bullet holes allegedly assaulted a police officer at the hospital. The shooting victim was in critical condition, and the 30-year-old was arrested for assaulting the officer.
Police are investigating both shootings, establishing crime scenes and commencing inquiries into the incidents.
