In a significant development during the anti-liquor campaign, Khajekalan Police Station in Patna discovered around 480 liters of foreign liquor in a raid at Ghasiyari Gali. Acting on a tip-off, the police swiftly conducted the operation, causing concern among local liquor smugglers. An initial probe has uncovered an alleged interstate liquor-smuggling network.
Gaurav Kumar, the Sub-divisional Police Officer of Sadar Range, revealed that the liquor consignments were smuggled from states like West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh with the intention of selling them in Patna for Holi festivities. The police, under the guidance of Patna SSP, received information about illegal liquor stored in a house, leading to the successful raid and seizure. The smugglers reportedly used trains to transport liquor and distributed it across Patna via a well-organized home delivery system.
During the raid, one suspect was arrested on the spot, and cash amounting to Rs 2,000 along with a mobile phone were confiscated. The arrested individual disclosed information about a key figure in the liquor smuggling operation. Subsequent police actions involve ongoing raids to apprehend other members of the syndicate, as part of a broader crackdown mandated by the Bihar Police Headquarters to enforce prohibition laws rigorously.
Authorities emphasize not only seizing contraband but also dismantling the entire supply chain and technical networks utilized by smugglers. The goal is the complete eradication of the illegal liquor syndicate in Patna, with investigations ongoing to achieve this objective.
