Police in eastern Paktia province, Afghanistan, discovered arms and ammunition, including a Kalashnikov assault rifle, two hand grenades, and bullets, in a car at a checkpoint. Two suspected smugglers were apprehended in connection with the weapons and handed over to the judiciary for further investigation. Authorities emphasized that unauthorized possession of arms is illegal, and efforts are ongoing to maintain law and order in the region.
In a separate incident, Afghan security forces in southern Helmand province seized numerous firearms and ammunition during a counter-terrorism operation. Twenty-six individuals were arrested in connection with the weapons haul, according to Mawlawi Sayed Wali Saeed, the provincial counter-terrorism manager. Similar efforts were reported in Baghlan province, where a weapon cache was discovered in Deh Salah district.
Law enforcement actions extended to eastern Parwan province, where 21 firearms were collected, and 18 individuals were arrested. The Afghan government’s commitment to collecting arms from unauthorized individuals as part of post-war security measures was reiterated. Notably, a significant weapons cache was uncovered in Uruzgan province, leading to the arrest of three individuals connected to the illicit arms stash.
