Continuing the crackdown on drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, police found 58 grams of ‘ganja’ in possession of a woman. The woman, identified as Sanjana from Amritsar, already faces two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. On May 19, the police intercepted her during a routine check at Varun Chowk.
A third case under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at the Katra Police Station. The police are conducting further investigations into the matter. Reasi Police urge the public to assist in eradicating drug-related issues by providing information on drug peddling and substance abuse.
In a separate incident, authorities in Baramulla district destroyed illegal poppy cultivation as part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan’. The 100-day campaign aims to combat drug addiction and has been termed a fight against narco-terrorism by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The Lieutenant Governor initiated the campaign on April 6, emphasizing punitive measures against drug offenders, including the cancellation of official documents and property attachment. He has been actively participating in anti-drug marches across the Union Territory to raise awareness and address drug-related challenges.
