In Muzaffarpur, the SSP Kanthesh Kumar Mishra has taken action by suspending the entire police raiding team, including SHO Raja Singh, due to serious lapses in the controversial Gaighat incident. The raid, conducted on March 17–18, 2026, in Chorniya village, faced violent resistance from villagers, leading to tragic consequences.
The inquiry report, submitted by Rural SP Rajesh Kumar, revealed that the police team encountered resistance involving stone-pelting, attacks with sticks, and even firing during the raid. SHO Raja Singh fired in the air to escape, resulting in the unfortunate death of a local resident, Jagatveer Rai. The report highlighted various shortcomings, such as conducting the raid without adequate force or intelligence inputs.
The Muzaffarpur SSP’s decision to suspend several officers, including SHO Raja Singh, has stirred discussions within the department. The move aims to ensure accountability amidst growing concerns about policing methods and law-and-order issues in Bihar. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav visited the affected village to offer condolences to the deceased’s family and raised allegations against the SHO’s actions.
