Political tensions have risen in Mumbai as violence erupted during campaigning for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Haji Salim Qureshi, the Shiv Sena’s official candidate from Ward No. 92, was stabbed while canvassing in Bandra.
The attack took place in Bandra East’s Dnyaneshwar Nagar area. Qureshi was conducting a door-to-door campaign when unidentified individuals intercepted him and stabbed him in the stomach with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Qureshi was promptly taken to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for medical treatment, where his condition is being closely monitored by doctors. The incident has sparked tension in Bandra and nearby areas, with Shiv Sena supporters gathering in protest over the security breach.
Police have increased their presence in the ward to ensure law and order and prevent any potential violence. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack, considering all angles, including potential political rivalry.
This incident adds to a series of criminal activities during the election season in Maharashtra, with another recent altercation involving former MP and AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel. As the BMC elections near, verbal conflicts and physical confrontations between party workers have escalated, prompting a high alert in sensitive areas.
