A political clash unfolded on Friday regarding alleged comments about farmers and a proposed trade deal with the US, leading to a heated exchange between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. Union Minister Giriraj Singh dismissed the accusations from the Opposition as unfounded, likening them to misinformation campaigns like the Rafale issue. He emphasized that the government would not compromise on the interests of farmers, denouncing the spread of what he termed as misinformation to incite discord in the nation.
Singh pointed out that no official joint statement had been released or signed yet, emphasizing ongoing discussions and accusing some of spreading false information without understanding the realities of farming. In response to a privilege motion raised by Congress, MP Pramod Tiwari criticized it as politically motivated and lacking substance, dismissing it as a publicity stunt. Tiwari stood by Rahul Gandhi, asserting that Gandhi remains committed to advocating for farmers, laborers, and the country’s welfare.
Congress MP Rajeev Shukla echoed Tiwari’s sentiments, expressing determination to oppose the US trade deal and alleging that India’s interests were being compromised in the negotiations. The escalating tensions between the BJP and Congress highlight the deepening political divide over issues related to farmers and international trade discussions.
