A political dispute has arisen in Bihar regarding the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, a key women-focused financial aid program that influenced the 2025 Assembly election. The scheme pledged support starting at Rs 10,000 and rising to Rs 2 lakh for women in various job roles.
Opposition leaders are criticizing the state government for not fulfilling these commitments even after being in power for over six months. They accuse the government of misleading female voters with assurances of financial help during the elections.
The delay in delivering the promised financial aid and differing understandings of the scheme’s benefits have become a contentious issue between the ruling coalition and the opposition in Bihar.
The ruling alliance has refuted the accusations, with Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi asserting that Bihar’s financial stability is secure due to central government support. He dismissed claims of fund shortages and accused the opposition of misguiding the public.
Bihar’s Planning and Development Minister clarified that the pledged Rs 2 lakh support would be disbursed in multiple installments, denying claims of a one-time payment. The government assured that all commitments made by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would be honored.
Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar disclosed that around 1.81 crore rural women have already received Rs 10,000 each to promote employment. Those engaged in livelihood activities will soon get an additional Rs 20,000 installment, with beneficiaries contributing Rs 5,000 themselves.
