A heated exchange unfolded in Parliament when leaders from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition clashed over protests and energy security issues raised by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Union Minister Piyush Goyal criticized Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to Parliamentary proceedings, highlighting his casual demeanor during sessions. BJP Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey also rebuked Rahul Gandhi for what he perceived as a lack of seriousness, pointing out a photo of him drinking tea in the Parliament complex.
The tension escalated as Dubey emphasized the inappropriate nature of using Parliament for protests, despite directives from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against such actions. BJP Lok Sabha MP Ravi Kishan dismissed concerns raised by the Opposition regarding energy shortages and gas availability, assuring that adequate measures had been taken to address any potential issues. He reiterated confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the nation’s security under his governance.
In response, Congress leaders defended Rahul Gandhi’s actions, asserting that the Opposition was addressing a critical national issue. Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K. C. Venugopal highlighted Gandhi’s focus on energy security and criticized the compromised state of the Petroleum Ministry. Congress MP Manish Tewari stressed the importance of India’s energy security, urging the government to prioritize the safety of Indians in the Gulf region and secure the country’s energy supplies.
Trinamool Congress MP Dola Sen expressed concerns about the challenges faced by ordinary citizens in accessing cooking gas cylinders, reflecting broader anxieties about fuel availability. The political standoff underscores the ongoing discord between the government and the Opposition in Parliament regarding energy security and fuel accessibility, with both sides accusing each other of misleading the public.
