Political leaders from the Congress and Jammu and Kashmir criticized the recent firing incident at an event attended by Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary. They termed the incident as “unfortunate” and highlighted it as a serious security lapse, calling for a thorough investigation. Concerns were raised over the breach in security, emphasizing the need for stronger protection for public representatives and citizens.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, speaking to the media, expressed relief that Abdullah escaped unharmed but raised questions about the security arrangements. He emphasized the importance of restoring Abdullah’s security, which was reduced after the region came under central administration as a Union Territory. Congress MP Tariq Anwar also condemned the attack, expressing worries about the law and order situation and the safety of leaders and citizens.
Moreover, Congress MP Varun Chaudhary labeled the incident as a significant security lapse and called for stringent preventive measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput criticized the reduction in Abdullah’s security cover and demanded its enhancement, highlighting Abdullah’s stature as a senior leader in the country.
President of the Shiv Sena Dogra Front, Ashok Gupta, stressed that incidents like these should not happen in a democratic setup and called for strict action against those responsible. National Conference MLA and Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq echoed similar sentiments, terming the incident deeply alarming and emphasizing the need for a comprehensive probe to understand the security breach.
Former Jammu minister Abdul Gani Malik praised the quick response of security personnel during the incident, emphasizing the importance of their actions in averting a more serious outcome. NC MLA Ajaz Ahmed Jan questioned the security arrangements that allowed the assailant to breach security, raising concerns about the incident’s implications for safety protocols.
