A political controversy unfolded in Telangana as Congress MLC Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud accused the BJP of exploiting Lord Ram for political advantage. This accusation led to a sharp rebuttal from senior BJP leaders who criticized the Congress for disrespecting Hindu beliefs for political motives.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh condemned the Congress leader’s statement, highlighting a lack of understanding of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Singh emphasized the significance of leaders comprehending Hindu and Sanatan cultures, citing the teachings of the Gita on the emergence of transformative figures during times of moral decline.
The dispute arose when Goud accused the BJP of leveraging religion and caste for electoral benefits. He criticized the BJP for using religious sentiments to sway voters instead of addressing real societal issues before elections. BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also criticized the Congress, alleging that insulting Hindu beliefs had become a deliberate political tactic for the party.
Poonawalla pointed out a trend of derogatory remarks towards Hinduism by Congress members, citing instances of labeling Hinduism negatively and opposing the construction of the Ram temple. He questioned the Congress’s strategy of alienating Hindu sentiments for political gains, emphasizing the need for respectful discourse on religious matters.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo raised concerns about the intent behind such statements, suggesting a double standard in addressing different faiths. Deo highlighted the need for mutual respect and tolerance in discussing religious beliefs, urging for a more dignified dialogue on sensitive topics.
