Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna achieved his first five-wicket haul in ODIs as India limited Afghanistan to 218 runs in the final match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Despite skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi’s century, Afghanistan struggled after opting to bat first, with Prasidh’s early breakthroughs reducing them to 36/4.
Shahidi, supported by Azmatullah Omarzai, steadied Afghanistan with a 105-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Omarzai’s aggressive 50 off 56 balls ended when he was dismissed by Prince Yadav. Shahidi, battling cramps, reached his maiden ODI hundred in the 44th over, displaying immense determination.
Shahidi’s innings of 102 off 131 deliveries, including 13 fours and a six, was crucial, but his dismissal by Prasidh marked the turning point. Despite Shahidi and Omarzai’s efforts, Afghanistan’s lower order collapsed, losing the last five wickets for just 20 runs. Prasidh’s impressive figures of 5-23 from nine overs put India in a favorable position to chase down the target.
