President Droupadi Murmu stressed the importance of safeguarding traditional knowledge, language, culture, and tribal identity during the centenary celebrations of the Ol Chiki script of Santhali in Jharkhand. She paid tribute to Pandit Raghunath Murmu, the script’s creator, highlighting its significance in preserving the cultural heritage of the Santhali community.
President Murmu, before her speech, sang a traditional Santhali Nehor prayer song, emphasizing its role in guiding society towards enlightenment. She delivered her entire address in the Santhali language at an event organized by the All India Santhali Writers Association and the Dishom Jaherthan Committee.
Acknowledging the efforts of Santhali writers and social workers, the President commended their dedication to upholding the Ol Chiki script and the Santhali language, furthering Pandit Murmu’s vision. She lauded the Union government’s initiative to publish the Constitution in the Ol Chiki script, a significant step towards empowering the Santhali community.
