President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan expressed sadness over the loss of lives in a major explosion at a fireworks facility in Thrissur, Kerala. The incident resulted in the death of at least 12 individuals and left several others injured. President Murmu, in a social media post, conveyed her condolences and prayers for the affected families, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic event.
Vice-President Radhakrishnan also shared his condolences and hopes for the swift recovery of the injured individuals. He expressed his heartfelt sympathy towards the affected families and urged for the quick recuperation of those harmed in the accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously extended his sympathies to the victims of the mishap at the cracker factory in Thrissur, Kerala, offering his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
In response to the incident, Prime Minister Modi announced financial assistance for the affected families. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased person, while Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured individuals. Following the Prime Minister’s directive, Thrissur MP and Union Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Gopi is en route to the city to oversee the situation and provide necessary support.
The explosion, which occurred during preparations for the Thrissur Pooram festival, a renowned temple festival in India, led to a massive fire and caused panic among workers and residents in the vicinity. The incident took place amidst the ongoing arrangements for the festival’s grand fireworks display.
