The prime accused, Roz Ali, in the Nalbari district attack case in Assam succumbed to his injuries during a police encounter in Mukalmua while trying to escape arrest. The incident occurred near Gangapur, where a 19-year-old girl lost her life, and another 18-year-old girl was critically injured. Roz Ali and another accused, Ashik Ali, allegedly attacked the victims who were traveling on a scooter.
An intense search operation was launched to find the accused after the incident. Roz Ali was injured during the encounter in Mukalmua and later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Madhurjya Barman, one of the victims, died on the spot, while the injured girl, Mridumudra Deka, is receiving treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
The attack has sparked outrage in Assam, with some groups linking it to a rejected proposal by one of the accused. While termed as a ‘love jihad’ case by some, the police have not confirmed this angle officially. Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah expressed concern over the incident and called for strict action against the perpetrators.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and establish the sequence of events, as Assam Police continue their swift actions in the case.
