Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of a digital database by the National Archives of India, providing access to over 20 crore historical documents. This initiative, known as the Abhilekh Patal Portal for Access to Archives and Learning, aims to make the institution’s vast repository easily accessible to the public. Through this platform, individuals can explore nearly 100 million preserved files, enhancing their connection with India’s history.
In his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister emphasized the increasing role of technology in bridging the gap between the past and present. He highlighted the recent digitization efforts of the National Archives of India, showcasing unique documents like 7th-century Gilgit manuscripts and an 8th-century text called Shri Bhuvalay, presented in a grid format based on numbers.
Additionally, the portal features significant historical correspondence, including letters related to historical figures like Rani Lakshmibai, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Notably, rare documents concerning India’s Constituent Assembly are also accessible on the portal. Prime Minister Modi encouraged the public to explore this digital archive, offering a rich experience of India’s historical heritage.
