Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal involvement in addressing issues hindering major infrastructure projects in India has significantly boosted the country’s economic development. The PRAGATI initiative has played a crucial role in ensuring the timely completion of significant projects like the Pune Metro Rail and the Bhubaneswar-Puri rail line doubling. These projects highlight the substantial impact of the government’s interventions on project execution.
The Pune Metro Rail Project Phase-I, covering 33.28 kilometers with 30 stations, marks a significant advancement in urban mobility for the Pune region. Challenges during implementation, such as delays due to Defense land and regulatory issues near the Aga Khan Palace, were swiftly resolved through high-level interventions. This project, costing Rs 13,656.22 crore, showcases the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
The Doubling of the Bhubaneswar–Delang–Puri Rail Line in Odisha, undertaken at a cost of Rs 1,650 crore, aimed to enhance rail capacity for a major pilgrimage corridor. Prime Minister Modi’s directive to prioritize completion before a specific festival underscored the government’s focus on timely project delivery. The project not only met festival demands but also enhanced regional connectivity and tourism in Odisha.
The Lumding-Silchar Broad Gauge Railway Line, costing Rs 8,359 crore, serves southern Assam and provides crucial connectivity to hilly states. Despite initial challenges like fund constraints and security issues, the project gained momentum after receiving special attention through the PRAGATI mechanism. The Prime Minister’s guidance led to improved coordination and accelerated progress, benefiting the region’s connectivity and economic growth.
The Rosa – Sitapur Cantonment – Burhwal Rail Doubling Project in Uttar Pradesh, with a budget of Rs 2,560 crore, faced delays due to clearance issues and slow land acquisition. However, after being reviewed under the PRAGATI mechanism, chaired by the Prime Minister, the project gained momentum with resolved issues and streamlined processes. This initiative has not only enhanced regional mobility but also eliminated constraints on an essential section of the Northeastern Railway network.
