Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his honor in addressing the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg, Sweden. He highlighted the increasing convergence between India and Europe, emphasizing the opportunities arising from the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and India’s reform-driven economic growth journey.
In his speech, PM Modi discussed the potential for collaboration in various sectors such as technology, clean energy, infrastructure, mobility, and healthcare. He also met with business leaders of Sweden, including Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Crown Princess Victoria, to explore enhancing economic linkages between India and Sweden, particularly in futuristic technologies, research and development, artificial intelligence, security, and healthcare.
PM Modi invited European companies to deepen their engagement with India, citing the country as an attractive destination for investment, innovation, and manufacturing. He emphasized the importance of trusted partnerships in the face of a complex global environment, welcoming the momentum in India-EU relations and the transformative economic partnership facilitated by the India-EU FTA.
Highlighting India’s rapid economic growth and next-generation reforms, PM Modi underscored the government’s focus on ease of doing business, digital infrastructure, manufacturing ecosystem, and infrastructure development. He encouraged European businesses to invest in sectors like telecom, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, mobility, and healthcare, aligning with India’s vision of ‘Design for India, Make in India and Export from India.’
PM Modi stressed the need for India and Europe to collaborate on building resilient supply chains and highlighted India’s ambitious infrastructure and energy transition plans. He also emphasized talent mobility, education, and skill partnerships between the two regions, recognizing India’s young and skilled workforce as pivotal for global economic growth. Additionally, he proposed establishing an annual India-Europe CEOs Roundtable and an India Desk at the ERT.
