Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed outrage over a distressing incident in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where more than a dozen laborers were rescued by the police from harsh conditions. These workers were reportedly held captive in a tote-making factory, forced to toil with minimal food, and even faced physical abuse. The victims, who were promised decent jobs, endured this ordeal for up to two years, highlighting a grave violation of human rights.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra emphasized that the situation in Muzaffarnagar is not just about a few individuals but an attack on human dignity and the principles of the Constitution. She called for stringent action against the perpetrators to set a precedent and ensure justice for the victims. Following a worker’s escape, authorities initiated an investigation into the case of alleged bonded labor, including illegal confinement and reported fatalities during captivity. A joint operation by law enforcement and administrative teams led to the rescue of laborers from various regions, with arrests made in connection to the exploitation.
