Congress Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly denounced the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in coordinated US-Israel strikes and expressed sorrow for the loss of lives in the Middle East. She emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s famous words, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the targeted assassination of a sovereign nation’s leadership by the US and Israel, calling it despicable. She condemned the killing of innocent people and urged for strong condemnation regardless of the reasons given. Khamenei’s death in the attack by the US and Israel marked a significant shift in the 46-year Shia-theocratic rule, leading to increased tensions in the Middle East.

The Congress MP stressed the need for peace, highlighting the tragic involvement of multiple nations in conflicts. She called for a cessation of unnecessary wars, citing Mahatma Gandhi’s wisdom on the consequences of violent retaliation. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safe return of Indian nationals affected by the turmoil in the region.

The coordinated US and Israel attack on Iran had ripple effects across the Middle East, with Iranian paramilitary units launching drones and missiles at various Gulf countries. Bahrain reported a missile strike on a US Navy fleet headquarters, while Kuwait and other countries experienced alarming sirens and explosions. Explosions were heard in Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, and Bahrain, prompting the UAE to close its airspace.

India issued travel warnings for individuals stranded at airports in the impacted countries due to the escalating situation. Many Indians find themselves stranded in Middle Eastern nations as airspace restrictions persist, causing uncertainty and disruption for travelers.
