The Punjab government has decided to establish a reservation policy to assist Agniveers in securing state government positions after their tenure under the Agnipath scheme. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has formed a committee of civil and police officers to determine the specifics for providing reservation benefits to Agniveers. This initiative aims to integrate these trained and disciplined individuals into Punjab’s social and economic growth.
Chairing a meeting, Chief Minister Mann granted initial approval for extending reservation to Agniveers, emphasizing the need for a prompt finalization of the policy framework. The goal is to effectively rehabilitate Agniveers returning from national service and leverage their skills for Punjab’s advancement. The committee, led by officers Vikas Partap, Bhawna Garg, Sumer Singh Gurjar, and S.S. Srivastva, will propose recommendations and outline the procedures for Agniveer reservation and recruitment in various departments.
Chief Minister Mann highlighted the diverse capabilities of Agniveers, suggesting their potential contributions in departments like Punjab Police, Forest Guards, Fire Fighting Services, Jails, Home Guards, and more. He stressed the urgency in establishing criteria for reservation and selection of Agniveers to maximize the utilization of their expertise. Additionally, Mann praised Punjab’s historical role in upholding the nation’s unity and integrity, underscoring the state’s reputation for courage, resilience, and enterprise.
Recognizing the significant roles played by armed forces, paramilitary forces, police, and Agniveers in national security, Chief Minister Mann mentioned the state government’s existing provision of Rs 1 crore financial aid to families of martyrs. Punjab’s commitment to honoring those who sacrifice their lives in service remains steadfast.
