The Punjab state government has finalized an agreement with United India Insurance Company to introduce the ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna’ on January 15. This scheme will offer cashless health insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh to all families in Punjab. The previous coverage of Rs 5 lakh, limited to specific categories, has now been expanded significantly.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh hailed this initiative as a groundbreaking reform. The new scheme is set to provide cashless medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh annually for every family in Punjab, including government employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal will officially launch the program on January 15.
The scheme is designed to be all-encompassing, with no income restrictions or exclusion criteria. Enrollment for beneficiaries will be simplified and made accessible through Common Service Centres (CSCs) using only Aadhaar and voter IDs. Upon enrollment, beneficiaries will receive dedicated health cards under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna. Additionally, a helpline will be established to assist in the enrollment process.
United India Insurance Company will provide coverage of Rs 100,000 per family for all 65 lakh families in Punjab. For medical expenses ranging from Rs 100,000 to Rs 10,00,000, the state health agency will extend insurance coverage on a trust basis. The scheme incorporates a wide range of health benefits, ensuring comprehensive coverage through more than 2,000 selected treatment packages.
Beneficiaries under the scheme will have access to secondary and tertiary healthcare services across a network of 824 empanelled hospitals. This network currently includes 212 public hospitals, eight government hospitals, and over 600 private hospitals. The number of empanelled hospitals is expected to grow as the scheme progresses.
