Marking a significant change in Punjab’s urban sanitation approach, Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains unveiled a unique hybrid cleaning model in Patiala. This innovative system combines mechanized equipment with manual waste collection to enhance cleanliness. The initiative aims to make Patiala the cleanest city in Punjab within a month and set a benchmark for the state.
Demonstrating the hybrid model on Patiala’s streets, Bains highlighted the integration of shrub-cutters, super-suction machines, and scrubbers in the cleaning process. The schedule includes weekly cleaning for each ward, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sanitation. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision drives this effort to implement an advanced cleanliness system in Punjab.
The cleaning protocol involves machine-cutting of wild grass, manual collection of waste, litter suction, and road washing. Bains emphasized the importance of sanitation workers in this system, stating that their role is pivotal in organic waste collection. The initiative aims to reduce manual labor, enhance efficiency, and gradually improve cleanliness standards across Punjab.
Bains expressed confidence in the system’s effectiveness, promising continuous enhancements in cleanliness levels. He acknowledged the partnership with safai sewaks and highlighted the system’s ability to maintain cleanliness while reducing the need for frequent deep cleaning. The ultimate goal is to expand this model statewide after establishing Patiala as a cleanliness exemplar.
