Punjab Police, along with central agencies, successfully deported fugitive gangster Jobanjit Singh, known as Joban Billa, from Jakarta, Indonesia. The operation, part of Operation Nomad Hunt, involved a six-month international manhunt with strategic intelligence gathering and collaboration with national and international agencies. Joban Billa, wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder and drug and arms offenses, was detained in Indonesia on July 20 and brought back to India.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav mentioned that Joban Billa had been evading arrest by moving through various countries, starting from the United Arab Emirates to Georgia and finally to Indonesia. The accused had used a fake passport issued from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in March 2024, to flee abroad on January 9, 2025. Punjab Police had issued a Red Corner Notice against Joban Billa, leading to his detention in Indonesia.

Joban Billa is wanted in four murder cases in Punjab, including the killings of individuals like Jarnail Singh, Deepu Ajnala, a 12-year-old boy named Gursewak Singh, and Vicky Chugh. The extradition process was overseen by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and led by Superintendent of Police Bikramjit Singh Brar. Additionally, Punjab Police has established the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) to expedite the extradition of criminals abroad, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
