Punjab Police have arrested officer Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, who faces FBI allegations of extorting $400,000 connected to international crime syndicates. Nagra, a former Station House Officer in Tanda town, Hoshiarpur district, was accused of colluding with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria syndicate to extort an Indian-origin family in California by threatening to implicate their relatives in a Punjab murder.
Following a US federal indictment, Punjab Police relieved Nagra of his duties and transferred him to police lines. An FIR was filed against him for extortion and under the Prevention of Corruption Act after an investigation. ‘Operation Hard Ball’ is a multinational probe targeting organized crime groups involved in various crimes across the US, Canada, and Europe.
Nagra allegedly demanded $400,000 from a US-based NRI family after a man was killed in Tanda town. He warned the family of being named co-conspirators if they didn’t pay. Nagra, known for arresting Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh, faced clashes in Assam’s Dibrugarh prison while securing the release of an associate arrested for attempted murder.
