The Punjab Police have made a significant breakthrough in the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ operation by confiscating 713 illegal arms from gangsters’ associates, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police also found 218 magazines containing a total of 2,009 rounds of ammunition. According to an official statement quoting the DGP, gangsters entice young individuals to carry out illegal activities, including providing them with illegal weapons. The recovery of a large cache of ammunition from gangsters’ associates has helped in preventing various crimes in the state.
Since the initiation of ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, the Punjab Police have seized 92 illegal arms, ammunition, and magazines in Amritsar Rural, 201 in Amritsar city, 155 in Ferozepur, and 243 in Tarn Taran. Recently, the police intensified their search for illegal weapons, resulting in a substantial recovery. The recovered weapons range from sophisticated arms to locally made pistols. The AGTF, in collaboration with other departments, is actively working to crack down on gangsters and their activities across the state.
In a separate incident, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network by apprehending eight individuals with 11 sophisticated pistols and eight cartridges. Initial investigations suggest that the arrested individuals were in contact with illegal arms suppliers. These weapons were intended for distribution among criminals for use in extortion, violent crimes, and other illicit activities. Additionally, the Crime Investigation Agency Staff team of the Commissionerate Police Ludhiana arrested two individuals in possession of illegal weapons.
