Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his condolences to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family. Putin expressed sympathy towards Khamenei’s family, friends, and the people of Iran. He described Khamenei as a remarkable statesman who significantly contributed to strengthening the Russia-Iran relationship.
Iran announced a 40-day mourning period following Khamenei’s death in US-Israeli airstrikes. The Iranian government confirmed the deaths of Khamenei’s daughter, grandchild, and son-in-law in the attacks. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps pledged to retaliate fiercely against the US and Israel for the assassination.
The IRGC vowed to avenge Khamenei’s death with what they termed as the “most ferocious offensive operation in history” against the US and Israel. The Iranian Cabinet also warned that the perpetrators of this “great crime” will face consequences and emphasized that the incident will not go unanswered.
