Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to address current regional issues and promote peace. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and upholding the US-Iran peace agreement to ensure security in the region. Qatar expressed full support for initiatives aiming to reduce tensions and establish lasting peace.
The ministers also evaluated their countries’ relationship and explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration. The call took place amidst rising tensions in the region due to recent US-Iran military actions and a new conflict involving Yemen’s Houthis and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Iran and Oman engaged in discussions in Tehran to facilitate safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, described the talks as productive and future-oriented, with significant progress achieved. The discussions, led by Deputy Foreign Ministers from both nations, focused on ensuring safe maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz while respecting each country’s sovereignty. Although the Omani delegation departed Iran after the talks, ongoing technical and political consultations between the two countries are planned.
When asked about the current status of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson clarified that there had been no disruptions to maritime traffic in the area.
