Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, speaking after the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, stated that the Quad nations have agreed to strongly oppose any attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force or coercion. The meeting emphasized concrete cooperation and alignment of strategic perceptions on regional developments. Motegi highlighted the Quad’s commitment to denuclearisation of North Korea and expressed concerns over export restrictions on critical minerals.
Motegi addressed issues such as nuclear and missile problems, cyber activities of North Korea, and the abduction problem during the meeting. The Quad nations reiterated their commitment to the complete denuclearisation of North Korea. They also stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts for ensuring free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and bringing stability to the Middle East. Motegi underscored the significance of the Energy Security Initiative for ensuring a stable energy supply in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Japanese Foreign Minister emphasized the Critical Minerals Initiative Framework as crucial for strengthening the supply chain of critical minerals. He announced the Quad’s agreement to promote various cooperation projects aimed at enhancing resilience and capacity in the region. Motegi expressed satisfaction with the progress of Quad cooperation, describing it as essential for realizing the Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision.
