22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal is set to make a special appearance at the Australian Open’s Night of Legends on February 1, coinciding with the men’s singles final. Joining him will be former world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and Australian wheelchair tennis legend Dylan Alcott.
Nadal, who retired from tennis in November 2024, has a remarkable history at Melbourne Park, having won the title in 2009 and 2022 after intense five-set finals. In the 2022 final, he staged a memorable comeback from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev after a grueling five-hour, 24-minute battle. His impressive record of 77-16 matches at the season’s first major is noted by the ATP Win/Loss Index.
Ashleigh Barty, the first Australian woman in 44 years to claim the singles title at Melbourne Park in 2022, announced her retirement just two months after her victory. On the other hand, Dylan Alcott, a dominant figure in wheelchair tennis, has secured multiple singles and doubles titles in his illustrious career.
Prior to Nadal’s upcoming appearance, another tennis legend, Roger Federer, participated in the tournament’s opening ceremony alongside stars like Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Patrick Rafter, and Ashleigh Barty in a celebratory exhibition. Additionally, Nadal was honored with a special farewell ceremony at Roland Garros last year, where fans and fellow tennis players paid tribute to his extraordinary career.
