Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accused the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls of being misused for “planned and strategic vote theft” in Gujarat and other states. He claimed that the SIR process was not administrative but a deliberate attempt to steal votes, targeting specific sections of society and Congress-supporting booths. Gandhi criticized the BJP for undermining the principle of electoral equality by manipulating the electoral process.
Drawing parallels with previous instances, Gandhi highlighted similar patterns in Aland and Rajura, stating that the same blueprint was now being implemented in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and other states with SIR. His remarks follow recent allegations by opposition parties in Gujarat, including claims of a sudden surge in voter deletion applications during the SIR exercise. The opposition has raised concerns about the transparency of the process and warned of protests and legal action if eligible voters are disenfranchised.
