Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, met with Congress MPs in New Delhi after their suspension from the House was lifted. The informal gathering occurred following the withdrawal of the suspension of eight Congress MPs, a decision made after a proposal by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kiren Rijiju. The revocation came after the Congress leadership expressed regret over the behavior of some members during the Budget Session.
Party sources revealed that Rahul Gandhi engaged with the MPs post the decision, discussing the suspension and its subsequent withdrawal. The MPs updated him on the House events during their suspension period. Among the suspended MPs were Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, and others, all from the Congress party.
The eight MPs faced suspension on February 3 for the remainder of the Budget Session due to allegations of disrupting proceedings and throwing papers during a tense moment in the Lok Sabha. Responding to the development, numerous Congress MPs appreciated the suspension lift, crediting the party leadership and the Speaker for resolving the matter. They emphasized the Opposition’s commitment to addressing public concerns and protesting against perceived discrimination in Parliament.
The MPs stressed the crucial role of the Opposition in a parliamentary democracy, highlighting the importance of their involvement in debates to ensure public issues are raised in the House.
